LA GRUB

I must say that I have been very content with all of the food that LA/Hollywood has to offer!  I've decided to share a few of my favorite places, since those of you who know me well, know that I LOVE food :)

Food Trucks are a huge thing in LA, they're everywhere.  I like to follow them around on  roaminghunger.com.  One that was a block away from my work one day was Truck Norris. The name was enough, I knew I had to go try it out!  Not knowing what to expect when I walked up to the little window they had to order, I saw a filipino menu of about 4 different items.  I ordered the pork bowl ( I can't remember the actual name, nor do I have a picture of my food, apologies) and it was quite delicious!  If  you're in LA, search it on the website!

Don't hate me again, but I do not recall the name of this restaurant, because well, I've never been there.  These gourmet tacos were brought to us from a friend of Todd and Amy's one day.  They're on potato tortillas and there were probably 4 or 5 different kinds, all VERY colorful like this one below.  One was shortribs and had these fluorescent pink sliced onions on top.  After taking my first bite, I was warned that the onions were soaked in habanero sauce....thanks for the heads up. Definitely the hottest taco I've ever had, but still managed to be packed full of flavor. So good!

"Milk" on Beverly Blvd is where this beauty came from.  I would say its an overpriced cafe where apparently the celebs like to show up every once in awhile.  This was a $11 sandwich, Turkey BLTC. It had a healthy portion of turkey, crispy bacon, lettuce, tomato, aged cheddar and a lemon mayo.  Quite delicious if I do say.

Todd and Amy got me a to-die-for chocolate mousse cake from Susina Bakery across the street from us.  So great.

I got to cut the cake with this machete of a knife that's actually for sale in the shop.  I guess its the only knife we had on hand that would really work. It definitely did the job though! (It is now washed and back on the showroom floor ;)  )

Urth Cafe.  Definitely my favorite cafe I have been to so far.  You're looking at a Grilled Cilantro Chicken with Pesto, and a Caprese Panini.  I cannot describe the deliciousness thereof, you'll have to try it for yourself!

Vitos Pizza.  A small joint in a shopping mall that serves a hefty slice of NY style pizza.  This is the veggie and meat pizzas.  The ricotta cheese on top of the veggie paired with the spinach and broccoli was definitely my favorite thing. ( I've been there twice now)

I was looking for a reasonably priced sit down dinner one night and came across Bossa Nova Brazillian Cuisine.  Perfect, I love brazillian food and I loved the prices.  After fried yucca and cheese bread (pao de queijo), we started with a mixed greens simple dinner salad, moved on to seabass, black beans, rice, farofa (brazillian flour that's good on basically anything!) and smashed plantain (me) and a delicious veggie pasta (Steph)  we finished off the course with a classic passion fruit mousse.  Took me right back to Brazil. I loved every bite I had that night.

And I continue to eat on...

Mr. Sullivan

Any of you recognize this space?  YUP!  That is THE dining room that we designed for NK last semester.  I was lucky enough to go here to do some floor measurements. The house is just like I imagined it would be, just a great craftsman home!  The dining space is a lot smaller than I had imagined ( I think a lot of you USU students would be surprised too).  But its really nice home in a quaint location.

True story, I really was there.

Outside shot.

I was able to meet Mr. Sullivan ( using "mr." makes him sound old, he is not, young hip guy) and he was really down to earth!  I told him that I was able to check out his house, and he wanted to make sure that i'd seen the whole thing and told me to go back whenever I wanted to check it out. What a stud.

Week 1

DO WORK!

So... contrary to popular belief, I thought I would show you that I actually am doing an internship, and I actually don't just sit around all day :)  ie  this lovely wall hung plate display above a custom NK bed.  Yes, Erin and I worked on this, and it turned out pretty good!  Todd and Amy we're pleased, which is of course, what we aim for.
So on the second day of my internship, we we're asked to go get coffee for the crew.  Every Tuesday we have our planning meeting for the following week and discuss what needs to happen, and of course, they must have their coffee to get their brain going.  I was sure to ask EXACTLY what they wanted since I'm not so savvy in the coffee world, and it turned out to be a success.  As you can tell.... I was excited.  We haven't been asked to get coffee since, so Erin and I either did so well that they decided not enslave us to such a task, or it was so bad that they just decided to get it themselves now... I guess I'll never know.

This is my working hard at the light store.  They're always very slow at this place (which is why I won't provide any names) so I was able to sit for a good 10 minutes while they were looking for our order, hah.

THE one-and-only NK Shop

Our task the first week was to organize the back storage room.  Nickey Kehoe had recently moved into this new space a few months before we arrived, so there were still lots of boxes to unpack and organize.  I was able to build some custom shelving for the room to help with the storage issue.  Just a before and after picture (which aren't even taken of the same wall or anything... but you can imagine... maybe).

Nice and organized :)

And the completed hung plates.

This first week has been great, and Amy and Todd and Linnea are such a great easy-going team to work for! I'm excited for the weeks to come.

Barcelona!!!

I was so happy to get to Barcelona today! I was loving the warm weather and awesome beach ocean views!

Chang Mok and I at the '95 (?) Olympic Games stadium in Barce.

Telephone tower designed by Santiago Calatrava

The old architecture and modern pops of color in the city made things really interesting!

Crazy wacky ideas for buildings, haha, I can't believe they actually built this. I love it because I know it wouldn't fly in the USA.

Really cool chair made from bottlecaps

This is the pub where Picasso and other famous artists used to go, "4 Cats". Picasso also designed the menu cover for this bar.

There was a huge flea market today and there were tons of different kinds of food and things! There fresh squeezed juices were to die for. I had the kiwi juice first, and I had to go back for seconds!

Didn't have to go back for seconds on this one however...

Cool photo op's

All the senior citizens come and dance to live music in this square every weekend to keep up their native Catalonian culture.

Just some cool door graphics. My favorite thing about Barcelona was that all of the buildings were really old looking, but down below there were always these really cool hip modern stores inside of them. What a unique city!
